There are many restaurants for you to try in Armacao de Pera which serve a variety of cuisine catering for most tastes. Fish and shellfish feature prominently on the menus with fish stews, grilled sardines and the 'catch of the day' being firm favourites. Many restaurants offer a 'tourist menu' which offers excellent value.

Portugese cuisine is relatively modest and is more about freshness and taste than complexity. A firm local favourite is ‘Cataplanas’, which is the name of the copper pot in which the different dishes are cooked, such as ‘Cataplanas de Marisco’ (shellfish) and ‘Ameijoas de Cataplanas’ (clams).

It is common practice for Portuguese restaurants to charge a small 'cover charge' per person and for this you typically receive sardine paste, cheese, bread, olives and garlic carrotts, which is brought to you when you sit down.
